    <abstract locale="en_US">&#xA0;Transient hyperinsutinism has been implicated in the prolonged hypoglycemia observed in small for gestational age or asphyxiated newborns. Tiiesc infants are at high risk for severe and permanent brain damage, thus necessitating appropriate diagnosis and correct treatment.
