Blood pH and plasma hemoglobin concentration were measured in dog undergoing hyperventilation with or without 6 %CO 2. Blood pH rose in the first minutes in the alkalotic group and hemolysis appeared mostly during second hour after alkalosis was established. It increased gradually during the following hours of hyperventilation. No hemolysis was observed in the group undergoing hyperventilation with 6% C02. It is concluded thal hemolysis is unrelated to mechanical action of hyperventilatroi n and in due to alkalosis. the possible cause of hemo lysis and related Iitrature is discussed.

Summary : Infection is an important cause of perinatal death in Iran. It can occur in the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods. Infection call reach the foetus by the following routes: 1- Hematogen, ous spread via maternal blood 2- Ascending amniotic infection 3transdecidual spread 4- Via fallopian tubes, The two promier' namely, hematogenous and ascending amniotic arc the more common and, from a practical point of view, the most important. The hematogenous route provides a way in which all microorganisms, namely viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoa, can infect the foetus throughout the whole pregnancy period. Ascending amniotic infoction is more common and occurs usually during labour. In this vaginal bacteria reach the arnmiotic cavity directly via the cervical canal. This occurs mostly in labour which has lasted more than l2 hours even when the membranes are still intact or when the membranes have been ruptured for more than 9 hour

Replacement of Superior Vena Cava was experimented in 26 dogs with autogeneous venous graft, homologus artery graft, Edward Tape nylon graft, Edward Tape nylon graft with arterio venous fistula and Edward Tape nylon graft with anticoagulants. The results arc discussed in detail and problems of venous grafts which are mainly due to the slow blood flow and blood clotting in grafts, arc explained. Arteria venous fistula between right carotid artery and right jugular vein eliminate Using anticoagulants has been done in only two cases and this is not draw a conclusion. However, it seems that this would be rather dangerous because of slow blood flow in superior vena cava and the risk of bleedingdanger of blood clotting but has the danger of right heartfailur.
