In order to study the incidence and histopathological aspects of renal disease and its role in the mortality rate in Iran, the protocols of 4463 autopsies, performed in the last 15 years at the Tehran University Hospitals were reviewed. Among 4463 autopsies there were 861 cases (20 %) of various renal diseases including 282 cases (32.75 %) of disease of the interstitium, 176 cases (20.44 %) of renal lesions in tuberculous patients, 112 cases (13.0 I %) of vascular disease, 101 cases (I L73 %) of diseases of the glomeruli, 48 cases (5.57 %) of rheumatic carditis, 30 cases (3.48 %) of epithelial nephrosis, 78 cases (3.25 %) of non tuberculous amyloidosis, 28 cases (3.25 %) of congenital malformation, 20 cases (2.37 %) of non tuberculous diabetes, 13 cases (L51 %) of neoplastic disease, 10 cases (1.16 %) os septicemia, 8 cases (0.93 %) of eclampsia and 5 cases (0.58 %) of myelomatous kidney. The underlying diseases in 35 cases of nephrotic syndrome were: tuberculosis, II cases (31 %); Non-tuberculous amyloidosis, 6 cases (17 ;;,); chronic glomerulonephritis, 5 cases (14 %); chronic pyelonephritis, 3 cases (10 %); and acute pyelonephritis, one case. The kidney was severely affected in systemic amyloidosis in 64 cases.
The cardiac action of phenoxybenzamine (Dibenzyline) was studiedusing the maximum rate of pressure rise in the left ventricle as a measure of myocardial contractility. Cardiac function was assessed by increasing the pressure load on the heart and measuring contractility as reflected by dp/dt. Dibenzyline was found to change the cardiac response to pressure load. The rate of pressure increase in the left ventricle at any specified left ventricular end diastolic pressure was found to be greater after the administration of Dibenzyline. Similarly, the rate of pressure development was fo und to be greater at any specified peak ventricular pressure after Dibenzyline administ ration. These changes were analyzed statistically and were found to be significant. The mechanism producing these changes is not known.
A case report of the relatively rare condition of a primary hydatidiform mole in the fallopian tube is presented. Key words; Hydatidiform mole Fallopian tube.
Cholestatic hepatitis induced by prolonged administration of nalidixic acid: Anti biotics like other drugs may generally produce hepatic benign lesions. We have recently observed a case of cholestatic hepatitis by prolonged administration of nalidixic acid. This hepatitis have regressed rapidly after discont inuin-c the dru g. This case dose not excluded the value of nalidixic acid asa strong antibiotic but it to the category of hepat otoxic drugs.
Mycotoxins and its significante in food poisoning is the subject of this communication. This brief communication, once more signifies the importance of mycotoxins in food poisoning.
An investigation of the incidence of colour defects was made in primary school students. The children ranged in age from 7 to 14 years. The frequencies were 7,04 per cent. for males and 0,53 per cent. for females.
Our experience with seven cases of pheochromocytoma has been described. Preparation with Alpha and Beta receptor blockers, as well as the correction of hypovolaemia prior to operation, have been rccommcned. The Transverse Abdominal Incision has been selected as the incision of choice. The usage of Noradrenaline post operatively, has been abandoned. The preparation with Alpha and Beta receptor blockers should be performed prior to retroperitoneal pneumography, or other traumatc examination.
